Two worlds collide in this upbeat, heartwarming musical about reconciliation and second chances. Ren's father has just abandoned the family, and he and his mother have moved from Chicago to the small town of Bomont, where relatives have taken them in. Ariel, the "bad girl pastor's daughter," longs to get out from under her father's shadow and a recent tragic loss that has paralyzed her family and all of Bomont. As a result of this tragedy, dancing has been forbidden. But Ren rallies his newest friends to push back against the pastor, arguing that dance is an important expression of healing and freedom, and that everybody deserves a chance to "cut FOOTLOOSE!"
