Right between the eyes

Posted on Jul 21, 2013

2 out of 5

I got sucker-punched by the promise of comedy from a troupe that may have been rated higher than it deserved in the Fringe Festival Guide. Don't get me wrong--a couple of sketches were quite funny but for the most part, there just wasn't enough funny here. I found myself checking my watch way too often during a 60-minute show.

The talent did the best they could with what they were given. They were all very interesting to watch, and there were a few stand-out performances to be sure. I loved the word play and banter in a couple of the sketches (the superhero, Johnny Echo, was beyond funny as was Barbie, and the lead character in the fishermen sketch). Others just left me scratching my head--Little Hitler?@!# C'mon!

Even Antonio Banderas, the Old Spice Guy and the Most Interesting Man in the world weren't enough to save this evening.
